OCR: Statement by Planned Parenthood on Supreme Court's Ruling Page 70 NY, 1-13/US Newswire: The following is a statement by David J. Andrews, acting president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Planned Parenthood Action Fund. "With its ruling in Bray v. Alexandria Women's Heath Clinic, the U.S. Supreme Court has abdicated its responsibility to curb mob violence and protect the welfare of millions of American women. The court has cast doubt on the ability of federal courts to police the actions of Operation Rescue and other anti-choice terrorists at family planning centers. Unencumbered by the threat of federal intervention, these groups will escalate their vicious campaign of harassment. The timing of this decision is especially outrageous in light of Operation Rescue's recent announcement that they plan to disrupt the presidential inaugural celebration. Planned Parenthood calls on President-elect Clinton to speak out forcefully and, once in office, take every legal action within his power to safeguard women. Further, we urge Congress to pass the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act, legislation that will supersede the decision in Bray and ensure that women have safe access to health care. American women will not be deterred from exercising their fundamental right to make personal and private decisions."
